With the advancement in the field of technology, the desktops transformed into a more portable and sleek form of computers called laptops. They are fast and can store enormous amount of data in their hard drive as well. With the invention of laptops it became possible to work from anywhere without any geographical and time limitations. With constant development in this field made it possible to achieve even the impossible feat. The technology made it possible to store vast amount of data within that sleek and light weight machine. Nowadays every laptop is equipped with a powerful and high speed laptop hard drive. Though they are physically smaller in size compared to the desk top hard drives, but they are faster, light, and power efficient. Laptop hard drive comes in two sizes, they are 2.5 inches or 64 mm and 1.8 inches or 46 mm, where as the size of a desktop hard drive is around 3.5 inches or 89 mm. The price of hard drives found in laptops is comparatively higher than that of desktop hard drives. At present, the storage capacity of laptop hard disk ranges from 250 GB to 500 GB. The speed of the hard disks depends upon its rpm (rounds per minute). There are basically three different speeds found in laptop hard drives; they are 4200rpm, 5400rpm, and 7200rpm. More is the value of rpm, higher is the price of the hard disk. There are many manufacturers of laptop hard drives. But there are mainly five players in this business, they are, Western Digital, Toshiba, Seagate, Hitachi, and Samsung. Initially there were many companies that use to manufacture hard disk, but they all either went bankrupt or were acquisitioned by some bigger player. The hard disks in laptops are designed to face tough conditions and to overcome any kind of shock. They are enclosed within a tough metal casing, and to provide extra safety it is sealed completely. As the hard disks stores vast amount of information and data, therefore it said to be the most sensible part of a laptop. Therefore proper measure should be taken to prevent any kind of damage to the hard disk. If the hard drive crashes, then all your information and data are lost. Symptoms such as frequent laptop hang ups and repeatedly appearance of a blue screen are the indications of an approaching hard disk crash. Before it gets too late, it is always better to take some preventive measures, such as regular back-ups and proper care of your laptops. It is important to regularly check for errors; otherwise the initial hiccups may result in future disaster. |
